TREDYFFIN TOWNSHIP GENERAL OVERVIEW

Tredyffrin Township Aerial View

Located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, Tredyffrin Township is among the affluent communities that make up the Main Line – a region known for its historic estates, prestigious schools, and high-quality living standards.

The township’s name reflects its Welsh heritage: “tre” and “dyffryn” are Welsh words for “town” and “a cultivated valley”, respectively. Put them together and you have a beautiful tribute to the township’s scenic setting, nestled between rolling hills.

The neighborhood’s easy access to the Metro Area means a more robust job market than you’d typically find in a suburb. It’s also a great place to build a business, given the high-income demographics of the area. Malls, hospitals, and outdoor spaces are never too far away, as well as the roads and public transport options you need to get from place to place.

From sports games and concerts at nearby stadiums to some of the best dining and drinking options anywhere in the nation, suburb life here adapts to your wants and needs.

Brief history

Tredyffrin Township has been around since 1682 after a Welsh Quaker group purchased the land from William Penn himself.

After being incorporated in 1707, the town first became known for its grain mills and churches. That was until 1777 when it became the site of the headquarters for General Washington’s army during the Valley Forge Encampment. Many of the farms and houses the soldiers stayed in are still standing today, making Tredyffrin Township a popular destination for history buffs.

Basic facts

Today, the suburb is as far away from its Revolutionary War days as it is from its agricultural past.

This can be seen most clearly in the town’s population density, which hovers around 1,605: almost 100% more than the national average. Just under 32,000 people live in Tredyffrin Township’s 20 square miles today.

The majority of Tredyffrin’s residents have been living here for generations and most homes were built between the 1940s and 1960s, indicating that the area is a well-established one with residents taking pride in their strong sense of community. This makes Tredyffrin Township an excellent place for families to settle down and build a life.

The median age of Tredyffrin residents is 42 years, meaning most of them have already worked their way up the corporate ladder and are enjoying the fruits of their labor. This is further evidenced by the large number of residents with a master’s degree or higher (42% compared to the 13% national average), as well as the $154,000 median household income, which is almost double the average of the Philadelphia metro.

Tredyffrin Township has several famous towns, including Chesterbrook, Berwyn, and Devon.
